Optimizing HPC in the Cloud with Rescale
As engineers and researchers search for ways to efficiently accelerate their computations and achieve more complex, higher fidelity, and tightly coupled simulations, many have looked to cloud computing infrastructure as a more prominent utilization for the HPC industry. In a presentation to the HPC Society of Professionals, Nithin Jacob, Customer Success Engineer at Rescale, discussed the need for HPC in the cloud and the role it plays in optimizing performance and costs for enterprises. In conjunction with fellow engineer Nikhil Venkat, he walked through the innovative solution of Rescale and how it can help businesses achieve faster and more flexible results using cloud architecture.
Managing HPC hardware architecture has been limiting companies’ most valuable resources, leading to issues such as canceled projects, poor performance, and costly consequences. Jacob explained how a software-driven approach eliminates limitations pertaining to hardware management. With HPC in the cloud, end-users can optimize their infrastructure appropriately for their workloads. Detailing the solution of Rescale, he also explored how the platform allows its end-users to access different hardware and software providers for their workloads in a streamlined fashion.
In the second half of the seminar, Jacob demonstrated a platform demo, showing how to run HPC in the Rescale cloud environment. With over 900 open source and commercial applications to select from, users are able to perform workloads and manage workstations more cohesively. He also discussed the platform’s opportunities for IT business management, in particular, the role of Rescale’s economic and security dashboard in building continuous performance optimization across organizations.
