Engaged Data Science

The Engaged Data Science (EDS) program was founded in fall 2019 to expand opportunities for students at the University of Houston to work on data science projects examining issues relevant to local communities using real-world data. EDS focuses on broadening participation beyond those academic disciplines traditionally associated with data science and emphasizes activities that bring together interdisciplinary groups of students to work on self-directed data projects. EDS partners with academic departments and offices across the University of Houston to create a portfolio of programs open to students in all UH colleges.

The Pharis Fellowship

The George “Trey” Pharis Fellowship Program provides undergraduate students with opportunities to conduct research projects focused on the application of data science principles and techniques to improve understanding of non-medical driversof health (NMDoH) within Houston communities.
