Micro-credential Programs

The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute offers a suite of micro-credential programs designed to provide students, faculty, and staff with specialized skills in key areas of data science. Each program consists of a series of core and elective courses, culminating in a digital badge that certifies expertise in the respective domain. The courses are free for active UHS members.

Available Programs

These micro-credentials are designed to enhance participants' proficiency in cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, providing them with a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving fields.

Data Science

Provides foundational training in data management, Python programming, data visualization, and machine learning, making it ideal for beginners in the field.

Artificial Intelligence

Designed to equip students with specialized AI skills, including deep learning, large language models, and other advanced AI topics.

Advanced Data Science

Offers advanced instruction in areas like data analysis in R, deep learning, and scientific computing using Julia, building on foundational data science skills.

High Performance Computing

Focuses on developing expertise in high-performance computing techniques, such as GPU programming, parallel computing, and cluster computing architecture.*

How to Register

Here are the steps to register for micro-credential courses through the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute (HPE DSI):

UH System Students, Faculty, and Staff:

  1. Login to Moodle: Access the Moodle platform using your UH credentials. Ensure you are connected to the campus WIFI or the UH VPN to gain access.
  2. Sign Up for Courses: Navigate to the course listings and sign up for each course you wish to take as part of the micro-credential program.

Non-UH/Alumni Participants:

  1. Pay the course fee of $250.00 per course at least three (3) weeks before the course start date. The payment URL and instructions are available on the respective course page.
  2. Email the HPE DSI after making the payment at least three (3) weeks before the course begins to allow adequate time for processing your course access credentials before the first-class meeting.
  3. Login to Moodle using your UHS credentials. Ensure you are connected to the campus WIFI or the UH VPN to gain access.
  4. Sign Up for Courses: Navigate to the course listings and sign up for each course you wish to take as part of the micro-credential program.

Completing Your Micro-credential

After Course Completion:

  1. Once all required courses are completed, fill out the Micro-credential Badge Application Form (available on individual Micro-credential program pages) to receive your official badge. You can link your HPE DSI badges to a Badgr account and share them on professional platforms like LinkedIn. This helps you showcase your achievements to potential employers and academic networks.
  2. Receive Micro-Credential Badge: Upon successfully completing the required courses, the HPE DSI will automatically award you the Micro-credential badge at the end of the semester.
  3. Link to Badgr Account: To share your badge, create a Badgr account (if you don’t already have one) and link your HPE DSI badges to it. You can then share your accomplishments on platforms like LinkedIn.
  4. Retroactive Badges: if you have completed any of the required courses since the Spring 2019 semester, email the HPE DSI to petition for retroactive badges.
