This August, HPE DSI professor Jerry Ebalunode will teach Python, the easy to learn, powerful programming language, in a week-long workshop open to the UH community. Python is known for its efficient high-level data structures that make it suitable for rapid application development.

The course, which has 150 seats available for students to attend virtually, will be delivered over four days from August 8 to 11. Topics covered will include data types, conditional and loop statements, functions, input/output, modules, classes and exceptions.

Upon completion of this tutorial series, participants will be able to understand existing scientific Python code and write their own simple Python applications. The workshop will also introduce participants to scientific computing extensions of Python, like Numpy for use in high-performance computing. The use of advanced Python libraries like regular expressions, scipy, pandas, seaborn and scikit-learn for every day scientific computing will be explored as well.

"Python is powerful and versatile,” notes Dr. Claudia Neuhauser, director of the HPE Data Science Institute. “It is the top programming language.”

The HPE Data Science Institute is offering this class to UH students, faculty and staff at no cost.
