The HPE Data Science Institute has partnered with the University of Houston Libraries to consolidate teaching efforts in the area of data visualization. Data Services Librarian, Wenli Gao, is the principal Tableau instructor at UH. Tableau is one of the most popular and powerful platforms for translating data patterns into visual information which can be interactively adjusted. Martin Huarte from DSI teaches the ParaView platform, which has been awarded as the best tool for scientific and engineering data visualization on demanding compute systems.
DATA VISUALIZATION COURSE
“Data Visualization using ParaView and Tableau” brings together skills and methods to provide a competitive, hands-on learning experience for the UH research community. After completing this course, participants will be able to comfortably explore and study data sets from applications on social sciences, economics, engineering, medicine and science, both utilizing a home computer and the powerful high-performance computing resources at the DSI’s Research Computing Data Core.
Data Visualization Day
Every Spring, the HPE Data Science Institute hosts a full day of speakers, training sessions and technology demonstrations on the UH campus. Data Visualization Day is an opportunity for community members interested in data science to engage with the HPE Data Science Institute’s resources. The event features presentations and demos on data visualization and interpretation in all fields of research and academia. Students may enter a visualization contest, as well.
